Just a thought.....

just an idea....

In the past, I've done these little bunnies made of washcloths with an easter egg inside and they sold like CRAZY. and they are cheap and easy to make.
We could maybe sell them around easter time. Although the money wouldn't really help us much this year since the season would be half way through, but it would give us a head start on next year.

WHAT IS LOYALTY?

A few years ago, one of my football players came into my classroom in the middle of my lesson and asked if I could talk to him for a few minutes. Although I hesitated at first, I eventually agreed to hear him out. It was at this time where he thanked me for all the time and attention I had given him for the last few months, but confessed that he could not play for our team anymore because he did not have any insurance and his family could not afford the insurance offered through the school. This player was not one of our "star players" nor was he one of our "starters", but this kid had been with us all summer long, sweating and feeling the agony and delight of our workouts. "why did you wait until today?" I asked impatiently, "didn't I tell you today was the last day to turn in all the paperwork!" "Yes" he answered, "but I guess I was too embarrassed to tell you".

What would you have done if you were in my shoes?

> Be upset because he interrupted your class
> Say "thank you, and good bye"
> Find a possible solution to the problem.

WHY?

I am pretty sure you know what action I took that day (I hope).
To me Loyalty is a very important virtue, especially in any family, group or team. I strongly believe that it is the extend to how players build their relationship with other teammates that determines the overall character of a team. If you can't be loyal, you cannot be trusted and if you cannot be trusted then you cannot be a team member. Would you trust someone who at any given time turns his/her back on you? On the other hand would you trust the person who frequently has gone beyond his/her duty to help you in any moment of need no matter how huge or insignificant the situation might seem?

Let's move forward with those who will be loyal to our team, those who will self-sacrifice in order to strengthen our relationship, and those who no matter what "will have your back!"

"the willingness to make a personal sacrifice to strengthen a relationship."

If you must know what action I took that day, here it is: I brought this situation to the team, where they all volunteered to pitch in for the insurance premium, although we were still short, I was able to make it enough and the player was able to play for us that season.

NEW IDEA:

Christmas Wreath Drive
Use our creative skills to make Christmas Wreaths before going on winter break.
Usually it costs approximately $10.00 in materials for each wreath but we can sell them for $20.00 each to parents, teachers and friends. Wreaths usually go for $25-50 depending on the elaboration at stores. Basically if everyone in the class sells ONE wreath, we can profit $300.00. You don't need to worry about the cost of the materials, but we will need your creativity, time and effort for this to be successful. Let's think about it and DO IT!

FUNDRAISING COMMITTEE

If you are interested in creating and becoming part of this committee let me know so that we can schedule weekly or bi-weekly meetings at lunch.

Fundraising Continued.....

Ok, with homecoming only a couple weeks away, we really need some fundraising ideas. Coach Burgos proposed the idea of creating a fund raising committee. This sounds like a great idea!!!! We should have a committee that can focus on making money because the softball team is in a bit of a financial crisis.

Coach Burgos recently met up with other coaches to discuss equipment needs, and Coach Burgos, along with other Athletic coaches, came up with a wish list.

Not only do we need equipment, we currently have no game jerseys. We want to take care of this problem as soon as possible, but it is very costly. Both JV and Varsity Jerseys need to be replaced. Coach Burgos wants to have the jerseys in by Christmas, and December is approaching quickly. The jerseys (in total) may cost up to $2000 or more and the school only provides us with $1800 and a few hundred dollars in our trust fund. We barely have enough money for the jerseys, not including equipment.

I am gonna ask Coach Burgos to look into working the lunch carts because we get paid $25 per lunch cart a day! so if we work 2 carts 4 days a week, thats $200 straight into softball's pocket a week!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Any ideas????

Coaching Staff Wish List

FUNDRAISING

Hey LADIES! We need to begin fundraising! So here's what's new, any ideas, share them with us PLEASE!
We can begin by asking people to sponsor us. Anyone, your Aunts and Uncle's, cousins, parents, grandparents, church, teachers, friends, organizations. Anything, $5, $10, $15, anything they can offer, it's good. It piles up and that's awesome. We can make these people treats as thanks you's.
Pizza Sales?
Ice Skating Night?
Candy Sale?
Homecoming Ideas? For the Game and the Dance (Beads, Tattoos, light sticks???)
Starting giving ideas, we'll keep you posted
See you all tomorrow, everyone needs to dress, unless your doctor doesn't let you!
Be a BEAST not a bunny

Practice

Ladies, there has been a growing problem with girls saying they will show up to practice at a certain time and they either show up late or do not show up at all. This needs to stop. It's your responsibility to make sure you come to practices when you say you will come. It's a commitment.

IF for any reason you are not going to be able make it to practice YOU MUST LET ONE OF THE COACHES KNOW; either via myspace (Rudy), calling, or email. Ladies you have to do what you have to do. Just make sure the Coaches are aware of your situation.

No excuses.

You already know the consequences of missing practice or coming late. So please, make sure you are on time to practices and avoid any extra running.

Remember:
"BE A BEAST."

Tryouts

Uni's Softball team is allowed up to 10 screenings before the actual tryouts. We recently had 1 screening at the end of October. There will mostly likely be another screening within the next month or so. When there is a final date for a screening it will be posted.
The screenings do not immediately determine who will be on the team. The screenings are there to simply see what we are working with. The real tryouts will probably not be held for another couple months.

If you are currently in the conditioning class, this is your chance to make your impression on the coaches. Treat every practice as a tryout.

New plan for Homecoming Fund Raising and the TV show Fund raiser

Bad news. For some reason, Leadership decided to let the Class of '09 sell at homecoming in place of us.

So we will not be selling refreshments and snacks to the visiting team anymore.
Darn class of 2009! (still love '09 though)

Although we are not selling at the snack stand anymore that does not mean we will not be fund raising. We are trying to come up with another plan to make money. If you have any suggestions at all please tell a returner or one of the Coaches. We want to hear your ideas!!

-Also,
the plan for the Saturday trip at noon is canceled for now because there was not enough time to get everything organized in advance.
To make sure we have at least 40 people, we have postponed the trip to a further date.
As of right now there is not another set date, but there will be another opportunity to do the show.

For other fund raising, Burgos has been talking about selling Taco Bell to students at lunch as it has been successful in preceding years.

Warm-up uniforms

As you may have heard from Burgos, we were going to order spirit packs which include mesh shorts, a short sleeve shirt and a long sleeve shirt. Due to the high price of the spirit pack, we will only be paying for the short sleeve and long sleeve warm-ups. We will need to provide our own shorts. Since the warm-up tops will most likely be grey as in past years, most girls would easily agree that black shorts are the way to go.

The cost for the warm-up tops will be 10$ please do not forget the money.
If you have a problem coming up with the money you can speak to Burgos or De la Cruz in private and come up with a payment plan.

Since the majority of the team wears black shorts, I recommend getting black shorts of some kind.

It is up to you to make sure you have your uniform. We want the team to look alike, because it shows discipline and organization and makes us more of a team.

Later on in the season everyone will need to get long blue socks. If you do not know what kind of socks ask a returner and they will show you what they look like. But this is not priority right now.

Homecoming Game Fund Raising and Float

At Uni's Homecoming games on November the 9th, we will be selling refreshments and food to the visiting team. We need as many girls to help out as possible as we want there to be shifts. If you are going to be at the game we are asking for your help; even if its for half an hour or an hour. Please see Coach Burgos or Coach De la Cruz if you will be able to make it.

As for the Softball float, we are not currently signed up to participate in the parade. Most likely, one of the returners will be in charge of signing up. We have an idea for the float. We are looking into using Coach De La Cruz's SUV and he has offered to bring a boat on a trailer type thing (haha) but it's not a for sure plan. We are working on getting solid plans. If any girls know someone with a larger kind of truck and can be decorated, you can talk to one of the returners and we'll see about signing it up. We want to have enough cars to give all girls an opportunity to be part of the parade. All ideas or suggestions are welcome :]

Here is a picture of 2007's Float and we want it to be even more spectacular this year.

Movie Extra Fund Raiser

There is a Fund raiser scheduled for Saturday November 3.

What we will be doing is going to a filming place such as WB (thats where we went 2 years ago) and we are extras. This year we will be an audience for the tv show "Family Feud"

All girls involved in the softball program, conditioning class, or plan on trying out are asked to bring as many people to the fund raiser. For every person we bring we will receive approximately 15$. This means you are welcome and advised to bring friends, family, Boyfriends etc. In order for us to receive a bus provided by the school, we must have a minimum of 40 people otherwise the trip will be canceled. This event is expected to take place at around 1:30PM on Saturday November 3 until roughly 5:00-5:30 PM. Please meet at school at around 12-ish so that we make it the the place on time. RSVP with Coach Burgos.

If you are planning to attend this event, we strongly advise you to eat a big meal before going because you WILL get hungry.

also:
*Be sure to dress in semi-formal attire meaning no jeans.
Just wear nice black or navy pants/bottoms with a presentable blouse or clean shirt for the fellas.

Intro

As many people already know, Uni's Softball team has just been given a new set of coaches. Although we have a new coaching staff, they are not new to coaching and have been coaching Uni's Softball Team for years in the past. Due to unknown circumstances, they were unable to coach last year.
The new Coaches are:
-Coach De la Cruz
-Coach Burgos
-Coach Rudy
-Coach Lucie

This site will be open for all softball girls to look to for updates, practice dates, and plans for fund raising etc.

We are going to try and make 2008 Softball the best we can this year and in order to do that we need to stay organized and on top of all events.

As soon as game dates are released on the CIF website, they will be posted here and that way people can print them out if they so choose. The games dates can be expected to be released around the beginning of 2008.
